.NAVIGATING JESUSInventory No. 26-024 Scriptural Foundation: Psalm 18:2 (NABRE)“I love you, LORD, my strength” — Psalm 18:2Navigating Jesus offers a meditation on faith as a journey through uncertainty. The painting’s layered forms and shifting passages evoke a world in motion, where the way ahead is not always clear. Amid that movement, a firm presence suggests a place of orientation: the steadfast Lord upon whom the believer can depend. The psalmist begins with a declaration of love and dependence. Psalm 18 is a song of deliverance, born from the experience of being rescued. Its praise does not arise from a life free of struggle, but from the discovery that God remains faithful within it.In the verse that follows, the psalmist names the Lord as rock, fortress, and deliverer (Psalm 18:3). These images speak of protection, stability, and refuge. A rock is not moved by every passing storm; a fortress shelters those who enter; a deliverer acts when human strength is insufficient. Together they reveal a God who is not distant from the trials of His people. The title Navigating Jesus invites us to contemplate how Christ guides the Christian life. Navigation requires attention, discernment, and trust. It does not promise that every turn will be easy or every horizon visible. Rather, it calls us to keep our bearings fixed upon the One who is the way, the truth, and the life. When our plans falter, the Lord remains worthy of our confidence. For the Christian, the psalmist’s trust finds its fullest expression in Jesus Christ. In His earthly life, suffering, death, and Resurrection, we behold the faithfulness of God made manifest. The Cross does not conceal the reality of suffering; it reveals divine love entering into suffering and overcoming the power of sin and death. The risen Lord is therefore both our refuge in the present and our hope for the journey ahead. The painting does not ask the viewer to deny turbulence or pretend that faith removes every question. Instead, it invites a more enduring response: to pray, to listen, to persevere, and to entrust the unknown to Christ. Faith becomes a continual turning toward Him, even when the path must be taken one step at a time.At its heart, Navigating Jesus is an act of praise. The believer does not stand firm because the world has ceased to move, but because the Lord is faithful. He is our strength when we are weary, our refuge when we are afraid, and our guide when the way before us is hidden.Deacon Rudy Calsoncin (Ret.)Prayer On Canvas Christian Foundation© 2026 Rudy Calsoncin.
